Knit Fabrics for Garments

option for a wide range of garments. The special elasticity and comfort of these fabrics are produced
through the interlocking of yarn loops.
Types of Knit Fabrics
Single jersey
Single jersey is weft knitted fabric which is formed by one set of needles. This is
the most common knit fabric, known for its smooth surface on one side and a more textured
look on the other. In a single jersey face side and back side appearance is different. This fabric is
much warm, flexible, stretchy, and wear to comfort therefore get popularity.
Rib Knit
A double-knit fabric in which the rib wales or vertical rows of stitches intermesh
alternatively on the face and the back of the fabric. Both sides of this knit fabric look identical.
Rib knit fabrics feature a pattern of alternating knit and purl stitches, creating a stretchy,
textured fabric. It’s commonly used for cuffs, collars, and bands on garments, as well as for
close-fitting items like sweaters and leggings.
Interlock Knit
Interlock Knit Fabric is stretchy fabric knitted with interlocking stitches by
alternating sets of needles on a circular knitting machine. Instead of creating ridges of knit and
purl stitches, interlock knit fabric has two rows of stitches, one directly behind the other. This
type of knit fabric is similar to jersey but features a double-knit construction, making it thicker
and more stable. It’s used in items like polo shirts and more structured dresses.
Piqué Knit
Piqué, or marcella, refers to a weaving style, normally used with cotton
yarn, which is characterized by raised parallel cords or geometric designs in the fabric.
Recognized by its textured, waffle-like appearance, piqué knit is commonly used in polo shirts
and other casual wear. It offers a bit more structure and durability compared to jersey knits.
Fleece Knit
Fleece has a pile surface on both sides of the fabric, meaning each side has a layer
of cut fibers. Fleece fabric is actually a polyester that is made by reacting two different
petroleum derivatives at very high temperatures to form a polymer. Made from brushed knit
fabrics, fleece is soft and warm, making it ideal for casual wear and outerwear. It's often used in
sweatshirts and joggers.
